Owner of the Month November 2013

Maddie Lacey-Duke

Maddie and her Mum Su have owned their stunning Polish Warmblood mare Joszka for over a year now. They have been chosen for my owner of the month as they always put their horses well being first and have worked so hard to train and develop Joszka.

I first met Joszka in July 2013 following concerns from Maddie and Su that she had suddenly developed a subtle performance issue and was struggling to canter on the right rein effectively. On assessment it was clear to see that Joszka struggled with her canter showing a short hind limb stride length and 'bunny hop' action behind, she also showed moderate tension and spasm to the muscles under and behind the saddle region. Joszka was treated with a variety of Physiotherapeutic techniques including myofascial release, trigger point relase, massage and stretches and pulsed elctromagentic field therapy and Maddie was shown how to complete daily massage therapy and advice on warm up stretches and exercise regime advice. It was felt that these findings were likely related to a gradual increase in Joszka's workload and schooling level and is often a common finding when developing horses, and a real credit to Joszka owners to pick up on these subtle changes in their horses which are often easily rectified with Physiotherapy treatment.

I hope Joszka will enjoy her free Physiotherapy session and wish Maddie all the best with her training and future competitions!
